It all began with a last-minute holiday to Italy that fell into the lap of a young couple, Masha and Maxim Kovalyov. The only thing left to sort out was who would look after their daughter, five-year-old Zhenya. Both Masha and Maxim turned to their parents for help. Both sets of parents initially refuse, but fearing that the in-laws might agree – and that two weeks in their care would have a detrimental effect on their granddaughter – they arrive at the same time to look after Zhenya.

It would be a stretch to describe the relationship between the rural Budko couple (Masha’s parents) and the cultured and refined Kovalyovs (Maxim’s parents) as warm. And now, for the first time, they must spend a week under the same roof and vie for influence over their granddaughter. The outcome of this battle of parenting styles, hilarious adventures and absurd situations turns out to be unexpected for everyone: the in-laws grow closer, feeling mutual respect and affection for the first time.
