At the heart of the film are the real events that took place in 1890 in a village in Polissya, where a man died in mysterious circumstances. Locals accused his wife, a young witch doctor, of this. Then she was kicked out of the village. When a bad weather came to the village, the locals decided that the curse had been sent to them by an exiled woman. They learned that she lives in the forest and burned her alive as a witch. However, before doing so, the villagers agreed to release the priest who was to have the last conversation with her.
