The events of the movie take place at the end of World War II in one of the Carpathian villages of Western Ukraine. Soviet Army Sergeant Roman arrives for three days on vacation in his native village of Potoki, where his beloved girl Anichka lives. A few years before that, Roman and his parents were sent to settle in Siberia, and only now for his impeccable military service to the captives of his native land he was able to return to his small homeland and meet his beloved. However, the path to the hero is interrupted by the authorized NKVD, the leader of the Ukrainian insurgents and the leader of armed marauders, to whose hands Anichka fell…
