The film was set in the USSR in the early 1980s. Mass persecution seems to be in the past, but listening to foreign radio stations is still forbidden, and it is dangerous to express your thoughts in the presence of outsiders. Every knock on the door still makes you shudder. The words of truth are heard only in the kitchens, behind the shuttered windows, and are punctuated in typescript books, self-publishing. They are passed on quietly, slowly, only to proven friends, for fear of persecution. The protagonists have to oppose the inhumane state machine, put their lives on the path to true freedom. No one and nothing can stop a person.
