The week of April 15-21 is primarily remembered for the holding of several short meter festivals, an international book fair and an art exhibition "Returning Home".
On April 16, an exhibition of paintings "Returning Home" will open at the ATO Museum in Dnipro, featuring 24 paintings created by artists from different parts of Ukraine in support of Ukrainian captive seamen.
Almost immediately after these events, artist Beata Kourkul painted a graphic drawing "Little Ship, Come Home". The idea was taken up by the stepmother of the youngest captured sailor - 19-year-old Andrew Eider. She called on various Ukrainian artists to join this project.
Each of the 24 paintings is addressed to a specific fighter. Organizers note that upon returning home, they will receive these paintings as a gift.
The exhibition will run until April 20.
The 8th Kyiv International Short Film Festival (KISFF2019) kicks off in Kyiv on April 17, the largest event in Ukraine dedicated to the short meter.
In particular, the KISFF2019 Contest includes six blocks: International Competition: Exuberant Youth, National Contest: Block # 1, International Contest: Tet-a-Tet Talks, National Contest: Block # 2, Challenge Film Competition, and International Contest: Listen in full .
As it is noted, this year the focus of the festival will be the events of 1989 - democratic transformations in neighboring countries (program "When Your Neighbors Builds Democracy"), the 30th Anniversary of the KROK Festival and the fall of the Berlin Wall.
In addition, for the KISFF, Berlinale curators have prepared two programs at once - "Breaking the Walls" to help give a broader look at the events of 1989 and Should I Stay Or Should I Go with a dedicated curatorial selection.
This year's special programs include Senegal's Contemporary and Retro Cinema and The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, which will tell many fascinating stories about the lives of African Americans.
For animation fans, KISFF has produced three motion pictures at once. Animated Madness, which has been collecting full halls for five consecutive years, Quir Animation and a retrospective of the first Ukrainian KROK Animation Festival.
Also, the festival will host several world premieres within Ukrainian and international competitions. Particular attention should be paid to the Short Matters program, which will feature nominees for the European Film Academy Award, as well as the traditional "Festival Hits", "Comedies" and a program for children and adolescents.
In turn, the festival's evening sessions include Out & Proud's Gender and Identity Program. Midnight Sexy Shorts is a short meter that explores the topic of sexuality, fun and absurd tapes in Short Attack, as well as "100 Movies in 100 Minutes."
At the same time, the admirers of the experimental short meter KISFF invite to the programs Realizable Ecotopias and Radical Arts_Acts, which cover the topics of environmental utopias and revolutionary art. The festival also hosts a number of special events, including a Closer screening party and creative meetings with representatives of the global film industry.
KISFF2019 will be held in two locations: most screenings are at the Kyiv Cinema, film schools and other events are at the Kyiv Academy of Media Arts.
The festival runs until April 21st.
